Jersey - Jur-zi - Has two meanings: The Channel Island Jersey was famous for its knitting trade in medieval times and the name refers to what today we would also call a sweater; a close fitting, wool or cotton pullover. Jersey is also a soft, slightly elastic knit cloth made from wool, cotton or silk. The name derives from Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, where the material was first produced.
